Dad died on Easter Sunday , April 17, 1960. Many of you younger ones probably do not have much of a memory of that day. We were at Mass at the Blegian Colony Church. Because it was so full we never knew dad never even came in. When we went out he was sitting on the ground beside the car. leaning on the tire. As I recall either Roger or Mom drove home and Dad sat on the couch and toppled over to the right. Roger tried to massage his chest. It was before anything was known about CPR. I remember kids crying. We called the ambulance. I took you little kids over to Loret's place. Chris and John were on their way for Easter Dinner and called from Shelby or Conrad to see where " the party was for dinner" I had to tell her. Grampa and Gramma Moon came up immediately.
That next week is sort of a blank. Poor mom had to hold the family together and she must have been devastated but had to remain strong for us. On the way out of Church I had Kenny and Yvonne on either side of me so I could support them but I started to cry and mom had to come comfort me. She truly was an incredible woman and mother.
Roger and I went with her to the funeral home. I remember Eddie Wyse trying to sell us a bigger coffin" because Herb was a big man and would look better in that" I was astounded. I don't remember if we opted for the bigger one or not.
They were good parents for which I am thankful.
